John Vergeres, P.E., Joins GTA as an Associate

(GTA) is pleased to announce that John Vergeres, P.E., has joined the firm as an Associate responsible for managing geotechnical operations at our Sterling, Virginia, and Frederick, Maryland office locations, overseeing our regional soils laboratory, and developing new clients and project opportunities.

With more than 18 years of professional experience in geotechnical and materials engineering, Mr. Vergeres is particularly knowledgeable of the northern Virginia, District of Columbia, and Maryland markets and geology. He is responsible for coordination of subsurface exploration operations, overseeing lab testing, providing geotechnical analysis and design recommendations, and providing quality control and recommendations as part of GTA’s construction observation and testing services for projects throughout the region.

Mr. Vergeres’ expertise includes preparation of geotechnical exploration reports, as well as the design of retaining walls, driven piles, drilled shafts, and other structures. His background includes providing technical assistance and oversight to field personnel during drilling and construction operations and testing for a variety of retail, commercial, educational, transportation, communication, and residential projects. Mr. Vergeres’ field experience includes monitoring, testing, and evaluation of the placement/suitability of controlled fill, foundation soils, underpinning, slope stabilization measures, retaining walls, drilled shafts, auger cast piles, driven piles and other various geotechnical and construction monitoring activities. Additionally, he has provided geotechnical engineering services for a wide variety of challenging development projects requiring shallow and deep foundations, stormwater management facilities, earthwork, rock excavation, flexible and rigid pavement, geologic studies, damage studies, groundwater and drainage, retaining walls, and slope stability.

Mr. Vergeres received both his Master of Science degree in geotechnical engineering and his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
