Eric Church has been promoted to the position of Vice President of GTA and is responsible for overseeing and managing geotechnical engineering, environmental, and construction materials testing (CMT)/special inspection service projects performed by GTA’s Richmond, Virginia office, which he opened in September 2022.

Eric is a geotechnical engineer with 11 years of experience, all of which has been with GTA, and specializes in geotechnical site investigations, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE), gravity retaining wall, and reinforced soil slope designs, chemical soil stabilization design, using both lime and soil cement, flexible and rigid pavement designs, shallow, intermediate, and deep foundations, and settlement and slope stability analyses. In addition, Mr. Church oversees CMT/special inspections in the field and laboratory for a wide variety of multi-family, residential, commercial, industrial, energy, utility, and institutional projects performed by the office.

Eric is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, and his Master of Engineering degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of South Carolina. Eric is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), Urban Land Institute (ULI), Innovating Commerce Serving Communities (ICSC), and Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate (GRACRE).

Recently, Eric has been the Geotechnical Engineer of Record, provided geotechnical design/recommendations, or over-seen construction on over 7 million-square-feet (sf) of industrial warehouses, 2 self-storage facilities totaling 8 stories and +270,000 sf, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels, 312,000 sf of research and development (R&D) laboratories, more than 20 miles of a new natural gas pipeline, operational facilities and a new quarry pit, that included 5 continuous miles of above grade and subterranean conveyor systems for a world leader in the manufacturing of Portland cement, various residential and multi-family developments, and over 500,000 sf of MSE and gravity retaining walls.
