Hillsborough Township is home to a new 200,000-SF indoor multi-sport training, recreation, events and entertainment center. The complex includes four basketball courts or eight volleyball courts, outdoor configurable fields, arcade and virtual reality, indoor configurable turf field dome, climbing area and ninja course, meeting and event spaces, and café and concessions. GTA’s services during construction included observation and testing services associated with subgrade soils, structural fill, backfill placement, and utility backfill; foundation bearing pressure; reinforcing steel and cast-in-place concrete; slabs-on-grade; structural steel; light gauge metal framing; pavement; laboratory testing; and engineering supervision and consultation for the site, buildings, and associated infrastructure. During construction, highly unstable natural soils and environmentally impacted undocumented fill were encountered at the location of the future soccer fields and pavement subgrade levels. GTA recommended the use of soil-cement to stabilize the fill and natural soils instead of replacing it, which resulted in substantial cost savings for our client.
