About
The Union Bridge Quarry Replacement Project for Lehigh Cement is one of GTA’s most comprehensive engagements, drawing on every Abingdon office service line over more than a decade. It began with wetland permitting support that cleared a six-year permit stall in six months, leading Lehigh to engage GTA for the broader quarry replacement at New Windsor, Maryland.
GTA delivered an 810-page geotechnical and geophysical report backed by 29 rock-cored borings and 20 air track probes, then expanded into geophysical sinkhole monitoring, groundwater and dewatering studies, a water source investigation, and ongoing construction observation and testing. During construction, GTA’s quality assurance program covered earthwork, tunnel excavation, foundations, caissons, and concrete placement. Spanning environmental permitting, geotechnical and geophysical exploration, hydrogeology, and construction quality assurance, the project shows how GTA’s Abingdon office delivers a full spectrum of services on a single, complex, multi-year undertaking.
