About

Two Rivers is a 1,468-acre award-winning Planned Unit Development in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, located where the Patuxent and Little Patuxent Rivers meet. The community includes over 2,000 homes, serving both active adult and market-rate residents. It features two community centers: one for age-restricted residents with pools, courts, and social spaces, and another for all ages with recreational amenities around a scenic pond. Additional highlights include parks, playgrounds, a 108-acre garden and park, walking trails, and a segment of the WB&A Trail.

Since 2000, GTA has played a key role in supporting the Two Rivers development through a wide range of services. Initial efforts included wetlands consulting, and subsurface investigations such as Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings, Cone Penetration Test (CPT) soundings, and backhoe-excavated test pits within an actively mined and/or reclaimed sand and gravel site. The geotechnical studies evaluated the presence, extent, and quality of existing fill materials to inform residential and infrastructure planning.

GTA also conducted forest stand assessments and wetland delineations, designed wetland mitigation strategies, secured a Jurisdictional Determination from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and obtained a Joint Federal/State Permit for unavoidable impacts to waters and wetlands. GTA represented the client at a state public hearing to address environmental concerns, and demonstrated efforts to minimize ecological impacts.

Throughout the planning process, GTA collaborated closely with project planners, civil engineers, and client representatives to develop efficient site layouts and grading plans. Multiple subsurface exploration reports were prepared to guide development decisions. GTA also performed groundwater resource evaluations and obtained a groundwater appropriation permit for the proposed Golf Club at Two Rivers. Due to economic factors, the golf course was later removed from the plan and replaced with an environmental park.

Over the years, GTA has delivered a comprehensive suite of services including geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, natural resources planning, laboratory testing, retaining wall and stream restoration design, and construction observation and testing (COT). These contributions have supported the successful development of numerous residential lots, community centers, trails and roadways, stormwater management systems, and utility infrastructure such as water and sewer mains, pump stations, and an above-grade water tank.

Additionally, GTA designed and implemented a wetland mitigation project encompassing approximately 1.45 acres within the community. This project created diverse wetlands within the community consisting of forested, scrub-shrub, and emergent wetland systems.
